"Teacher... Teach Thyself!"

AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN

Ready for another semester of academic and professional growth....

GOALS:

Here we are at the beginning of a new semester, and as always it is a fresh start and a new opportunity to learn and grow both as a professional and human being.

So let's address a few basic questions: What are some of your personal or professional goals in EDUC 522 this semester. What would you like to be able to accomplish at the end of this class that you could not do at the beginning? What technologies might you be able to utilize to better reach all learners and learning preferences? What unit(s) might you want to work with in this class? What do you think?

Take a few minutes here as we begin to gather your thoughts and to brainstorm on a plan for progress in this class. Your final posted blogsite entry should be at least three of four paragraphs.

It may sound weird but what I really want to do for this class is not turn in any late assignments, I need to have more control of my time management. Thanks to the analytical side of me I should absorb the knowledge from this class no problem. I am fascinated by the concept of teaching to students based on learning styles and thus the topic of MI is enthralling to me. I believe my own personal balance is the reason I do learn so easily, however it is sometime hard for me to apply these concepts and that is what I am hoping to learn from this class. There a number of different interesting web tools to help students across all learning levels. I actually need to learn how to pace my teaching. Thus really focusing on some specific MI units would be helpful. I believe self awareness is super important to our learning and that is one area I would really like to focus on.

My time in the "Teaching and Learning with Technology" program has, thus far, accomplished a few of the professional goals I carried into the program. The enhancements of the types of projects brought into my classroom has had a positive impact upon instruction and student growth. Additionally, my time within the program has brought an increase in the quality of our class-time together. This course will help to bring together the last of the objectives I brought into this degree.

I seek to assemble a dynamic unit which unites several overlapping technologies. The primary function of this unit will be to: further hone student skills in selecting and utilizing appropriate technologies in pursuit of an academic goal, provide an opportunity for students to practice planning and producing independent works using these devices, and promote independent learning opportunities within the structure and pursuit of common core standards for an English 11 classroom.

Finally, by the end of this program, my ultimate goal is to integrate a continuous flow of evolving technological perspectives and practices into my professional routine. By establishing my own pipeline for technology in education, I establish a means to continue evolving my own approach to applying these tools within the classroom.

Technology has always been a little difficult for me to grasp so I am really excited to learn different things in all of these classes. From a professional standpoint, my goal is to really find out what technologies and programs are best suited for my subject and how I can implement into a unit or lesson. Since I am getting my credential in Physical Education, I will not be using technology as much as other teachers, but I know there are still many ways I can implement apps and programs into my everyday lessons. After this class I hope to have a better understanding of what technologies will best fit my area of practice and how it will benefit my students.
In prior classes they have been more focused on learning different software and programs and explaining how they work. I have a much better understanding of these programs and how to maneuver around them, but what I do not have a great understanding of is how I will use them in my classroom. When I am finished with this course, I hope to be able use these programs in my classes. I want to be able to use all these applications to help my students learn different topics. Understanding how they work is one thing, but I want to be able to actually use them in my lessons. I also have not had much practice in building units so I really do not understand that process yet either so that is also something I hope to be able to accomplish by the end of this term.
I have not come to a final conclusion about what unit I will be focusing on in this course because I am still not sure what would work best as far as implementing technology into a “PE” subject. The units I have been tossing around are a middle school level health unit or fitness unit. I feel these units would be better served with technology as opposed to a basketball or football unit. I like those units could really benefit from iPad or even simple computer technology as research, videos, articles, and much more can improve learning and understanding in the units of health and fitness.
I believe that technology can really help us in reaching different learners and preferences. I feel like PE is one of the classes where we have so many students and so many different skill levels all bottled up into one class so it is vital we reach as many different styles as possible. Even though technology will not be used in this class as much, the use of apps and technology can really help reach different learning preferences because we can do so many different things.

What are some of your personal or professional goals in EDUC 522 this semester. What would you like to be able to accomplish at the end of this class that you could not do at the beginning? What technologies might you be able to utilize to better reach all learners and learning preferences? What unit(s) might you want to work with in this class?

I hope to learn more about how to use technology to meet different needs of students. As a special education teacher I want to gather an abundance of technological resources to enhance my students' learning by finding innovative ways to meet their unique needs. I was very new to blogging, building a webpage, etc. in 512. I am hoping that now that I have gotten my feet wet, I will be able to expand upon my learning in ways that are meaningful for my life.

I don't integrate technology very much into my teaching because I don't know my resources very well. I hope to say at the end of this class that I can share my knowledge with other special education teachers on how to enhance learning through technology.

I am really excited about the topic for this class and haven't decided on a single unit that I am most interested in. I think I will take a lot away from each one.

1) What are some of your personal or professional goals in EDUC 522 this semester?

Teaching in the Special Education realm I believe it is important to be familiar with all ways of differentiated learning. Technology is an area that has become a viable option for challenged learners. Students who struggle with typical learning environments are often interested in learning through technology. Having a moderate background in tech teaching I hope to increase my options and learn practical and useful ways of engaging my students.

2) What would you like to be able to accomplish at the end of this class that you could not do at the beginning?

I am not entirely clear on the outline of this class but any improvement in the area of developing interesting on-line lessons would be helpful.

3) What technologies might you be able to utilize to better reach all learners and learning preferences?

With all of the applications offered on the IPAD it would make sense to have students become familiar and to utilize it’s resources.

4) What unit(s) might you want to work with in this class? What do you think?
