Welcome Spring II 2010: Goals!

AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN

Ready for a productive, busy nine weeks of academic and professional growth.

GOALS:

Here we are at the beginning of a new semester, and as always it is a fresh start and a new opportunity to learn and grow both as a professional and human being.

So let's address a few basic questions: What are some of your personal or professional goals in EDUC 515 this semester. What would you like to be able to accomplish at the end of this class that you could not do at the beginning? What technologies might you be able to utilize to "teach digitally"? As technology continues to change profoundly how we live and work, what might be the implications for education? Or to be more specific, the implications for teachers? Students? What do you think?

Take a few minutes here as we begin to gather your thoughts and to brainstorm on a plan for progress in this class. Your final posted blogsite entry should be at least three of four paragraphs.

THE FEW, THE PROUD: EDUC 515

Two "thumbs up" on the first day of class!

My goals for this semester in this class are to gain a deeper understanding of how I can incorporate technology into my classroom. I have used technology up to a point and I feel like there are so many good applications that I would like to learn. Some of the examples I heave seen in the program so far have left me uninspired and I would like to change that.
At the end of this class I would like to know how to use technology in an effective manner to help my students learn. I want to learn how to use technology not just for the sake of it but for improving my teaching. I would like to walk away from this class with a firm understanding of the uses of technology as well as a clear philosophy on technology in the classroom.
I am very skeptical of webquests and other applications for learning so I would like to see some uses within my content area for these applications and learn how to create one myself. I think that a game style application would also prove to be useful when teaching my students multi-step processes so I would like to find programs that work in that manner.
Technology has created a huge paradigm shift this century that has made the world much smaller then it has ever been before. All industries and professions have been affected by it and must therefore adapt to stay competitive. Education must also adapt to the growing influence of technology in our lives. This is a powerful medium tat puts information at the tip of your fingers and can be put to good use when applied properly.

My goals for this class is simple, I want to learn how to incorporate technology in my classroom. Not just any technology, but technology that will excite students to come to class every day. I want my students to be excited coming to math class! So far I have taken two other classes besides this one (and one on Wednesday) and I have had to create some kind of web site and a blog site that I am a little overwhelmed with which one I should use. I want to pick one that will be the most effective for next year.

I consider myself to be pretty technology savvy, but when it comes to using it in the classroom; I feel that I lack creativity. I am hoping that I can learn good techniques in this class that will help me better prepare my class for next year.

I know last week we were asked the question if we as teachers should change if our students are changing, and after thinking about it for a few days I think that all teachers need to adapt in some way or another. ~~Ryan

Goals:

Although I have a firm grasp on the use of technology, I see EDUC 515 solidifying my application in the classroom. Even in the first session, I learned more about how to apply wikis, blogs, texting, and multi-media technologies than I thought possible. I am an active user of technology and can see its influential purposes in education, but I want to be able to speak intelligently about why it should be encouraged more to my students, colleagues and parents of students. Through readings, research, experimentation and class discussion, I am hoping that I will be able to do so. My overall goal of this class is to apply what I have experienced and learned through and about technology to my future classroom. I have the knowledge and the creativity I just need to use them effectively for my students.

There are so many goals that I have made for myself for 2010, a majority of my goals had to do with my academics because my education has been my main focus this year. My first few quarters of graduate school was not the best experience because I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been and also it was a different environment. One of my goals is to better manage my time because as a working student it is crucial to manage my time that way I can complete all my requirements on time. My second goal is to complete all of my requirements for my masters by the end of the fall quarter so that I can begin finishing my requirements for my credential. My final goal for this year is to have all my graduation requirements completed by spring of 2011 and graduate from APU.
